With the beginning of the new year we’re putting extra effort to make better choices for our health. It’s the best time of the year to make the changes to our lifestyle and improve our wellbeing. Due to the pandemic, we are also spending most of our time at home which puts us in a perfect environment to focus on our cooking and baking skills. It’s a perfect way to save some money and improve your health at the same time.

Granola must be one of the most popular breakfast foods and one of the most delicious and convenient ones too. But the supermarket granolas are full of refined sugars and sodium which can have a very negative impact on our health. That’s why we came up with this easy homemade granola recipe, that uses just few ingredients and is sweetened only with honey!


CUSTOMIZE YOUR GRANOLA

The best thing about our granola is that it’s totally adjustable to your taste. You can use your favourite nuts and seeds to customize the flavour of your granola. In this recipe we used hazelnuts, almonds and pecans but go ahead and switch it up. How about some brazil nuts or cashews? Or maybe seasame seeds… Dried fruits? It’s all up to you!

Granola ingredient ideas: almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, walnuts, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, seasame, chia seeds, hemp seeds, poppy seeds.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups gluten free oats
  • 1 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecan nuts
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 tbs cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Chop the nuts and mix all ingredients in one big bowl.
  2. Lay out your granola on a baking tray
  3. Bake in 180 for 20 minutes, or until granola gets brown and crispy. While baking, mix every 5 minutes so that the granola roasts evenly.
  4. Let it cool down and store in a jar.
  5. Enjoy!

FIT BREAKFAST

NUTS

Are high in many vitamins and minerals including vitamin E, magnesium, and selenium. They are also loaded with antioxidants which prevent body cells from damage by oxidation. Nuts have very strong anti-inflammatory properties and fight against bacteria, viruses and fungus in your body. Additionally, they improve gut health thanks to the high amount of fibre they contain.

HONEY

Is known for its strong anti-inflammatory properties that support your body in fighting against all types of inflammation. Similarly to nuts, honey contains numerous antioxidants which help improve blood pressure levels. Antioxidants in honey has also been linked to reduced risk of heart disease

CINNAMON

Cinnamon contains an essential compound – Cinnamaldehyde – which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also an effective anti-oxidant that helps prevent cell damage and chronic diseases. It’s been proven to fight bacterias, viruses and fungus occurring in foods. It’s prebiotics are also linked to improved gut health.
